Action is the cure for worry

We are scared of what we don't know. Think about it. How often do you worry about an unknown outcome, only to feel relieved when you find out the result, even if it's somewhat bad? I do it all of the time - every time my kids tell me they hurt but I can't see a bump, bruise or cut. Every time a warning light comes on in my car. Every time I get woken up by a noise in the middle of the night. Until the doctor confirms the kids are (mostly) ok, the mechanic gives me the diagnostic report and I clear the house, I worry.

And typically worrying does us no good. We often get so wrapped up in what could happen, that the worrying becomes worse than the outcome. I’m so guilty of this, and I bet many of you (especially those that are parents) are too.

We often see this with our new financial planning clients. Everyone worries about the same thing - will I have enough? It may seem simple, but very few escape this worry. From those that have accumulated a healthy nest egg over 30+ years, to those just getting started - the common denominator is that most of us undoubtedly worry about our financial futures.

This is why we plan. I believe the single most important aspect of what we do as financial advisors is help people accomplish their life goals, and essentially, help them stop worrying. Sure, many of us manage investment portfolio's, design protection strategies, etc... but it all boils down to providing a person the peace of mind that there is a plan, and when we execute, their goals will be reached - plain and simple.

One of the most gratifying aspects of our work is the moment we relieve someone of that worry. The moment we put pen to paper and show them what their future could look like. When we sit down with a new client that has never done financial planning, has worried for years about not having enough, and show them the roadmap of how they can accomplish their financial goals. This is why we do what we do.

Maybe even more gratifying is when we work with someone that isn't on track to meet their goals, but has decided to take action. It takes courage to ask for help when you're uncertain, and often times it is these individuals that feel the most relief, because even though they may not be where they want to be, they now have a plan upon which to take action. They know what needs to be done and now all we have to do is execute.

People are often too hard on themselves when it comes to their financial lives. For most people, life comes in phases, and some phases are tough. It's hard to save for everything (emergency fund, retirement, college, etc...) when you're raising little kids, or starting a business, or putting kids through college, or caring for your aging parents - I get it. It's not always pretty and it's never perfect, but you can still be strategic. In the end, I assure you that when action is taken... when you decide to take that first step out of the dark and create a plan to get you to where you want to be... you'll have never felt better.

So, if you are unsure of where you stand, or just want a second set of eyes on the groundwork you’ve already laid, contact us. We have options for individuals at every stage in their journey.
